PHENYTOIN AS A PROPHYLAXIS OF POST-TRAUMATIC SEIZURES IN HEAD TRAUMA PATIENTS AT JAKARTA ISLAMIC HOSPITAL CEMPAKA PUTIH IN 2020-2022

Introduction: Post-traumatic seizures can occur as a complication of head injury, whether it is immediately after the injury to months or years after. Phenytoin an anti-epileptic drug that has been used widely prophylaxis for posttraumatic seizures. Method: The study was conducted retrospectively using medical records trauma patients in hospitals 2020-2022 on 54 samples treated up seven days post-trauma. Samples were obtained which then analyzed by records, looking at patient's identity, patient diagnosis, seizure symptoms, and history anti-seizure drugs. Result: Patients given phenytoin [22 (40.7%)] who did not have [18 (33.3%)] more than had [4 (7.4%)]. Similar results occurred without [32 (59.3%)], with no [30 (55.6%)] those [2 (3.7%)]. Conclusion: usage still routinely post-traumatic RSIJ Cempaka Putih. administration carried out case-by-case basis assessment must be determining use prophylactic so benefits outweigh side effects. For further research, recommended conduct EEG examination determine diagnosis seizures/epilepsy evaluation.
